history and traditions framed by the lake and the mountains
Malcesine arises on the Veronese shore of Lake Garda and is located a few kilometres from Riva Del Garda, about 60 km from Verona and 50 km from Trento.
The town grew up around the ancient Castello Scaligero, which can be entirely visited to the tower top, from where people can enjoy an amazing view of the lake area and where there’s a small museum on natural history and a permanent exhibition on the German poet Goethe. Another town attraction is ancient palaces like the Palazzo dei Capitani, known for his Venetian style frescoes and its lake-gazing garden.
In Malcesine you can go for a stroll surrounded by well-groomed olive groves and Mediterranean vegetation or rise up to 1800 m on Monte Baldo with the modern panoramic cableway, with fully rotating cabins, which rides hikers, mountain-bike enthusiasts and paragliders that want to admire the blue shades of the lake and the sky melting into each other in an amazing landscape.
In this town it’s possible to sunbathe on the wonderful lakeshore, to discover the other towns around Lake Garda by boat or to practice and rent the equipment for one of the many sports taught on a beginner’s level in the area such as: sailing, windsurfing, mountain biking, free climbing and paragliding.
The climate, which is always mild and healthy, is perfect for growing wine grapes and olives which produce an incredibly fine extra virgin olive oil. Olive mills and wine cellars are always open for tastings and special souvenirs.
